In years past, the John McEnroe Tennis Center was touted as a major draw to Nopolo and Loreto Bay. Anyone who has visited recently has seen a facility in complete disrepair both inside and out. Below are a couple of photos from inside the clubhouse that make it clear it hasn’t been in operation for quite some time.
The tennis courts are also mostly unplayable. This wasn’t welcome news to the growing number of pickleball players in the community. Several of them banded together and funded resurfacing of one of the tennis courts to convert it into two pickleball courts.
Players generally gather Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings at 8am to play for a few hours. If you want to join in, the next step is finding the courts hidden behind the tennis center. There is a dirt road running behind the tennis center. You’ll need to follow it for a few hundred meters to find the pickleball courts. It is best to either ride a bike or walk there as there isn’t parking for a car or golf cart.
What a great job of the renovation. Haven’t played yet this tear but hope to get in a few days soon.
Hola Foster,
Those of us who have worked on the restoration of the pickleball courts have asked the local community to contribute to the cause. Renters have stepped up and contributed as well. American players paid $120pp and Canadian players paid $150pp. We continue to accept contributions and players can contact me at susanzgilbert@gmail.com or FN38.
Cheers,
Susan
